What are EVS TrailCams?

EVS TrailCams are high resolution digital still cameras inside environmentally protected housings that are triggered by most common types of motion sensors.  Images are stored on the compact flash disks inside the camera. Used in conjunction with our Biscuit System and VM95 software, you can:

  • Schedule automatic image retrieval from the camera to the Biscuit

  • Automatically label each image with date/time, exposure setting, and text

  • Automatically call the Internet and upload the latest imagery

  • Maintain an archive of the images both locally and on the Internet

  • Automatically create slide shows for the Internet of any set of images

  • Preset the camera for any settings including flash and long exposures before going into TrailCam mode

  • Schedule the camera for taking images at regular intervals

  • Make Mpeg movies of the captured  images and upload them to the Internet

  • See the Biscuit for more capabilities

TrailCam Mode:

When put into TrailCam mode, the camera takes pictures in the following way:

  • When motion is detected (or any other sensor is tripped) the camera takes a picture.  It waits about 15 seconds to fully process the image and repeats the process, snapping another picture immediately if the sensor is still tripped.

  • The processing time, which is the minimum time between pictures, can be set from 5 seconds to 2 minutes. The minimum time allowable is the time the camera needs to process the image and depends largely on the resolution, varying from 5 to 20 seconds.

  • The maximum number of shots the camera can take depends on the size of the compact flash disk. On a 256 MByte flash disk, you can store over 250 of the highest resolution images (1MByte file size) or over 2000 images at low resolution (100K each- which is still significantly better than video capture quality).

  • When used with a Biscuit, TrailCam mode can be turned on and off many times a day for image retrieval and archiving, ensuring that the latest imagery is on the Internet.
