Our standard cameras are nowthe Canon A640 and G7. With these cameras, the software, VM95, can control the zoom, focus, aperture and exposure times. Although these cameras produce nice looking images, the SLR do a better job. If you are only interested in presenting the images over the Internet and making some nice time lapse movies, these cameras are fine. But if you want even better quality, perhaps with the intention of making HD quality time lapse videos, and a rock solid image that has no zoom or aperture jitter, you should choose an SLR
Are you interested in making the best possible time lapse movies?
Movies that meet the tough requirements of HD TV 1080P must have image resolution of at least 1920 x 1080. The Canon 350D has a native resolution of 3456 x 2304. This gives you ample room to either resize for the extremely crisp images, or to zoom within the image, while still maintaining true to the HD specification.
What's Inside the All-In-One?
VM95 now supports the Canon Rebel XT 350D. This is an SLR (Single Lens Reflex) which means lenses are interchangeable, image quality is higher, and you will obtain the best possible time lapse sequences.
Advantages of an SLR:
1 - Interchangeable lenses: In particular, view angles from 2° up to 115° can be obtained from a large selection of available lenses.
2 - Larger image sensor = higher quality image with lower noise
3 - Rock solid focal length (zoom) and focus. Zoom is always manual on an SLR, and the focus can be switched from auto to manual right on the lens.
These advantages mean that when you make a time lapse movie, you will have the best possible still images to work with.
Disadvantages of an SLR:
1. No zoom control, On an SLR, you set the zoom the way you want it, and it stays that way. The lenses have manual zoom, and therefore cannot be controlled in software.
2. No focus control. You either choose auto focus or set a switched on the lens itself for manual focus (after you set the focus)
